One of our own Eagle Scouts from Banner Elk Troop 807!

Fire Forged: Local Blacksmith wins History Channel's 'Forged in Fire'

NEWLAND — A traditional weapon amongst the Gurkha people of Western Nepal, Kora swords have a long history of use in both ceremony and battle. Whether cutting through the flesh of a ritual sacrifice or slashing at a foe on the battlefield, the Kora sword’s heavy, curved blade is made to deliver powerful chops capable of cutting through the toughest of materials.

This was the fearsome weapon that local blacksmith and Avery County native Liam Hoffman recently forged to earn first place and a $10,000 prize on a recently aired episode of the History Channel’s “Forged in Fire” series.

Toe River District Day Camp Wrap-up!

During the week of June 20th - 24th the Toe River District day camp went through with the theme of Cub Scouts Investigate!  If you weren't there you missed out on a very exciting time.  35 Cub Scouts from Packs 500, 505, 515, 521, 524, 800 and 807 came out for an amazing week investigating everything from decoding to a nature walk to a round of CLUE to solve a mystery!

Special thanks goes out to The National Park Service, National Wild Turkey Federation, Mitchell County Sheriff's Department, Spruce Pine Fire and Rescue, and all of the many volunteers that helped make this possible for our youth of Toe River.  See below some of the incredible pictures from the weekend or go to our District Facebook page for other photos of the various activities we had throughout the week!
